- The Arqam snake (Spalerosophis diadema):
The Arqam snake belongs to the family of true snakes (Colubridae) of the order Squamata. It is a non-venomous snake with a wide distribution in the Kingdom. Its body is relatively long, with adults reaching up to one and a half meters. It is characterized by a dark gray color with black spots along its upper surface, which gave it the name (Arqam).
The Arqam lives in open areas, valleys, and agricultural lands. It is generally a nocturnal animal and feeds on rats and mice, especially in agricultural areas. It provides a great service to farmers by eliminating large numbers of these rodents that can damage crops. In addition, it is harmless and poses no danger to human life due to its non-venomous nature. It is believed that its numbers are considerable, and it is worthy of preservation due to its vital role in eliminating a number of rodents that can devastate crops.
