It's refractory clay that has been pre-fired in kilns at extremely high temperatures (1400°C) until hardened, then ground and broken into small, coarse sand-like granules. These fired granules are then mixed with 'soft clay' to produce chamotte clay. Why did Dutch Studios use it in the 70s? 🍶 1 - Prevents expansion, contraction, and cracking during manufacturing. 2 - The artwork is unaffected by bulb heat. 3 - Aesthetic appearance, as the coarse texture is the secret to the piece's charm. It provides a warm background and a comfortable, elegant glow that smooth or glazed clay cannot achieve. Therefore, pieces of this type are extremely rare, while wall lights made of glazed pottery are abundant. ✨ Colors and Appearance: Charming natural matte earthy color gradients, combining sandy beige in the depth with dark burnt brown on the edges.
